Went on a bomber escort job to Mannheim, Germany.
Everything went fine and that made me happy since I
have just 8 more hours left to complete my tour -
300 hours - happy day.
	15 Aug. '44
Went out again today on a short mission to Handorf
and nothing exciting happened. I was satisfied for a
milk run at this stage of the game because I am now
sweating these last few missions out.

My last mission was a bomber escort job to Altenburg,
near Leipzig, Germany. The bombers really hit an oil
refinery and the flames rose quite high. Going into
the target a P-47 was hit by flak near us and the pilot
bailed out. Saw a few B-17's go down over the target
due to flak. Also near the target I saw a condensation
trail of a new German jet plane but it never came near.
Two other boys in the 362nd also finished their tours--
Capt. R H. Becker and Lt. Aubrey Hood. Certainly was
relieved to land at the base after 5 hrs. and 45 minutes
and know that I had completed my tour and all thru with
combat. It was a great experience but a bit nerve racking
at times. I figured I was plenty lucky to get thru with-
out a scratch.
